Dig Stop / Magslab

Dig Stop 150x6 A

AS4702 Compliant Dig Stop

Dig Stop™ does what it says – stops you digging!

Used primarily as a cable cover (AKA Magslab), it is placed above a buried cable to act both as a visual warning of services below, and a physical barrier.  Anybody digging will be warned of the presence of cables, thus protecting their safety and ensuring continuity of supply.

We have even tested it with a commercial digger operator.  As hard as the digger pulled, the Dig Stop did not break and eventually the rear of the digger lifted into the air!  The digger operator said he could easily feel it as soon as it grabbed.

It is the only product of its type manufactured here in New Zealand and made from 100% recycled plastic backing board (we add colour to it – that’s all).

Branded and non-branded fibre cover.

We make all the popular sizes and can manufacture any custom size up to 1600mm wide.   We can make Dig Stop to cover gas pipes, telecommunications cables, water pipes, sewage lines, fuel pipes and just about anything else.  Please enquire for more information.

For most situations, the NZ electrical code requires that cable cover meets Australian Standard AS4702.  Dig Stop has been independently tested, and was found to meet or exceed all criteria.  A key element of the standard ensures that the product provides safety for anyone using a spade or pick-axe; it is strong enough to prevent the tool going through far enough to reach the cable.  Use this link to download the full Test Report (2.4MB PDF).

We also have available our 3mm and 5mm ranges of Dig Stop; ie, not compliant with the above standard.  This is desirable in situations where compliance is not required and the saving is worthwhile.  We do advise customers to use fully compliant cable cover when required; being ordered to dig it up and replace it would be an expensive mistake!  We also advise extreme caution when considering thinner, cheap, imported copycats which claim to meet standards:  again, potential for an expensive mistake!  Your installer is responsible for ensuring that the correct version is used.

Dig Stop is available at all good trade electrical suppliers (not direct from us, sorry) so be sure to ask for it by name.  Please contact us for your nearest outlet.
